Create Your Tomorrow, Today

Are you fed up with life in general and wished you had done things differently? Are all your dreams and aspirations falling by the wayside and seem like a bridge too far? Then maybe it is time to take stock of what you are doing and start to do things differently. It is only you that can change things and alter the course of your own environment. Create your tomorrow, today! Nothing will change until you decide to change and do it immediately. Make that decision today and not tomorrow.

We all know that tomorrow never comes and the decision not acted upon today will just be a faded memory tomorrow. Maybe you are happy with things as they are or do not really believe in your heart that anything will change for the better. We all have dreams that we hope one day will come true, but unfortunately unless you aim to make them true, then they will remain an unfulfilled dream. It is the action that we take today that will determine what our future holds tomorrow.

Are you moving towards the goals you have set or are you steadily moving further away from them? Maybe you do not even set any goals that will ultimately lead you towards your dreams, but only if you act on them. Create your tomorrow, today and do it through the setting of goals. Everyone that is anybody and has achieved anything worthwhile in life has had a road map to their lives and that is known as the skill of setting goals. How can you know where you are going, when you have no idea how to get there.

Create Your Tomorrow, Today

Most of peoples lives are in disarray and without order, so how can you expect to succeed in life without a plan in order to get you there. It needs to be written down and most importantly acted upon each and every day. You are then setting the steps to create your tomorrow, today and there is a kind of magic of putting your dreams and aspirations down in black and white. It is there for the record and can never be forgotten, even though there can be times when you might wish to do so.

It is important to not make your goals too easy and at the same time not out of reach. They should be uncomfortable enough to take you out of your comfort zone, but also attainable and achievable at the same time. You should never stop the process of setting new goals and reaching new heights for yourself. It is a life skill that promotes growth and never ending development within your life.

Problems Facing Teens Today

Teen problems are growing. If you think that being a teen today is the same as it was when you were in their shoes, you are probably mistaken. Now, listen to yourself say how strict and how hard life was when you where young. But, you need to realize that teens today face huge, life threatening decisions just about ever day. What they face has a lot to do with where they grow up. Yet do not be fooled into thinking that your child is safe.

In the normal course of your teen's day, he or she may face any of these things; one or more of them.

Drugs. Think that drugs are simple like they used to be? They are not. Kids today are not just smoking the easy stuff. They are into crack or other strong and deadly drugs.

Problems Facing Teens Today

Sex. Not only are they exposed to it on the television, but they are encouraged by others. They may be engaging in sexual acts that you have never heard of. They may be doing it unprotected as well. At school, after school, on the car ride home - there are many opportunities you do not realize. Teens get pregnant and have babies.

Violence. Today's teen problems often revolve around violence. They see friends with guns at school or after school. They witness huge fights. They hear threats. They see anger and deal with it daily.

Depression. With all that they see and do, teens face depression today at an alarming rate as compared to just a decade ago. Depression is not something that just goes away, but can cause them harm and threaten their lives.

Driving. Teens drive drunk. Teens drive under the influence of drugs. Teens get in cars that others are driving under the influence. Teens may also be responsible drivers, but share the road with those that are not.

Teen problems that are at a lower level can be just as deadly. They face lying, cheating, emotional trauma, learning disabilities and divorce. All of these things a child will face daily in some cases. In those cases, it is no wonder that they have low self esteems, high drop out rates and some of the students will break under the pressure. Teen problems should be addressed and noticed by their parents first.

Most Profitable Franchises to Start Today

As a professional small business broker and franchise sales consultant I am often asked what types of franchise opportunities are the most profitable to start and own. From my experience there are a few common factors or characteristics that give some franchise business models a definite edge or advantage when it comes to the ability to consistently produce high profit margins. Some of these advantageous characteristics include having low overhead expenses, limited competition, and not offering a commodity type product or low barrier services. Below are a few franchise opportunity categories that share some of these characteristics and are generally regarded as having the right stuff to be very profitable.

Financial Services Franchises:

Franchises that offer financial related services such as income tax preparation, accounting, and consumer insurance services generally enjoy very high profit margins for a number of reasons. This includes low overhead expenses because of generally lower staffing requirements and no absolute need to rent high traffic (and expensive) retail space. And because they offer professional type services the barrier to entry is a little higher than starting the average home cleaning or janitorial franchise which helps limit competition. And last but not least financial franchises like insurance and tax franchises offer services that have the ability to generate repeat and residual income which can do wonders for the bottom line.

Most Profitable Franchises to Start Today

Medical and Health Care Franchises:

Medical and health care related franchises are well positioned to reap the benefits of an ever expanding market due to major and favorable demographic trends such as the inevitable aging of the baby boomer population. Traditionally health care and medical related franchises that offer services like assisted living, senior home care, and lab testing have very high profit margins and are generally considered recession resistant. These factors bode well for maintaining high profit margins for these generally non-discretionary services that will always be in demand for the foreseeable future.

Home Based Franchises:

Some of the most highly profitable small businesses I have ever worked with as a professional business broker were home based. In my opinion the benefit of not having the expense of a monthly lease payment can not be overstated in terms of bottom line profitability. Other profitable advantages of owning a home based franchise business include no daily commuting or travel expenses, as well as certain tax advantages that could put more money in your pocket at the end of the year. Be sure to consult with an accountant or CPA for more details about the tax advantages of starting a home based franchise or business.

Internet Franchises:

Starting an Internet franchise business offers many advantages in terms of setting the stage for being very profitable. This includes the fact the most Internet franchise opportunities being offered today can easily be operated from a small home based office with just an internet connection, computer, desk, and a chair. Consequently your overhead expenses will be much lower than that of a typical brick and mortar retail franchise business because there are no lease expenses or expensive equipment and inventory expenses. And generally most Internet franchises being offered today are designed to be owner operated so there are no expensive staffing requirements either.

Homecoming - A Wonderful Compilation of Prose, Poetry & Senryu by a World Loved Seafarer

This thin book Homecoming...Prose, Poetry, and Senryu consisting of 140 pages is just packet with a whole bunch of antidotes and golden nuggets.   As a matter of fact, Jan Oskar Hansen has outdone himself with this book. The first poem "October Mood," sets the stage for the rest of the book.   One could easily identify with the reality in the following lines of this poem: "A dead turtle on the road thrown out of a fast car by / someone fed up on having a pet that only ate lettuce / and lived wordlessly under the sink." Goodness, this compares with the people throwing their cats and dogs out as they drive by for various reasons. This is the reality of today's financial situation. However, why kill them? Instead they could have been taken to a pet shop and leave them there for someone who may need a pet.

If you are really looking for a great laugh read "Fado Concert" more than once. The ending will have you smiling. Politics certainly plays a comical roll in some parts of society. Under the circumstances, who would want to hear the mayor give a political speech at the end of a concert after experiencing a wonderful evening of enjoyment and relaxation? One more thing, "Party Times" will also get you going. Who would not remember those days, weather actual or at the movies? Events such as the ones in this poem are certainly memory refreshing.
The filtering of senryu, haiku, and tanka poems throughout the book will give you a quick laugh. Take this senryu for example: "An ugly woman / Deserves a dazzling poem / Every morning." Wow! I had to take a walk and come back to my seat after reading those lines; however, I kept the book in my hand with my thumb on the page, and I was still laughing.

"Picnic" is an excellent poem. One would guess that dealing with the ants is better that having it rain on your parade. While in Florida I had to deal with cockroaches. They were jumping all over the picnic basket.  However, I would rather have the ants in that case. As to the after problem, we took off and later found a cockroach trying to hide between the back seats. Critter!  I had to stump him fast. It came in with the picnic blanket. One would guess that the trunk of a car where picnic food is located could be a dangerous place also.

The poem "Misfit" is certainly one to mull over. That must have been quite a day! After all the events experienced, I guess I would be drinking the drinks instead of listening to someone trying to order them. What a misidentification? This shows the extent of a person's memory when it comes to names and faces. However, after watching the boat disappear forever, they would have really got the message about saying anything to me. Now that really funny!!!

This poetry book will also take you on a journey. Being a seafarer, one would imagine seeing a few travel poems to royally balance out the book. The poems are very scenic and each has a unique a story to relate. Starting with "Portugal's Vanishing Donkey" gazing or philosophizing under a carob tree; to "Kashmir" and the metaphor of dead soldiers"; then the "Last Visit (Norway)" and the churches; with lamenting over "A Village in Afghanistan" and the women in colorful shawls; then stopping for a "Spanish Evening" and red wine for enjoyment; and ending with "Calcutta" which in itself is a treat of geography, this mini world tour is breath-taking for the reader.

This book is serious and yet humorous at the same time. Thought not an oxymoron, it related contrasting images with figurative language which appeal to the senses. One will be able to see symbology in this book relating to life by just reading the lines. Something will grab you in the poems is one way, shape or form while reading. The syntax flow of word is also uplifting and stimulating.

This is an excellent book to read and to keep handy for another reading. I really like the picture on the cover. Hopefully, that is not the ship that was lost. If not, happy sailing my friend and stay at the helm. As the last senryu in the book alludes, love may be overrated; however, it keeps us sane. Taking this into consideration should certainly bring about an ending that is happy. In the words of the French borrowed into English "Bon Voyage Captain!"

What Should You Write Inside A Wedding Card?

For those people who are not just mere acquaintances of the bride and groom, they may want to express their sentiment in their own words when they are signing the card to give to the wedding pair on such a momentous occasion. What you write all depends upon the type of relationship you have with the happy couple.

An Easy Card to Write

The very reason you are attending a wedding is a happy celebration. You don't have to worry about writing any gaffes about age and you are free to express your joy in sharing their happiness. Beginning a new life together is quite an adventure and it is proper to wish the bride and groom numerous good wishes.

What Should You Write Inside A Wedding Card?

Your Wish for Their Happiness

Adding your own words to a wedding card is always appreciated by the couple and most especially by the bride as they read over their cards together. Some things you may want to wish the two of them are luck, love and happiness; the basic necessities you need to begin a new life together. You may want to wish them a life that is full of sunshine and promise as well as prosperity and joy. You may want to wish the couple a life that is less ordinary that is filled with adventure and laughter. It is always nice to wish them wealth as well as fun too.

A Poem for the Occasion

Poets throughout the ages have been able to say all the things you are feeling, and searching for a few lines from a relevant poem is another way you can wish the best to the bride and groom. There are many poets that are well known for their poems of love, so it shouldn't be too difficult to locate an appropriate verse. If you feel confident enough and think you have the skills, you might even try penning a line or two of poetry yourself.

Say What You Feel

Heartfelt sentiments can be sensed through your words, so saying what you feel is always a good idea. Don't worry if you don't sound "fancy" enough, worry that you are able to get your true feelings across to the couple whose special day of their marriage you are fortunate enough to share with them. After all, the words you write from the heart are the ones most especially felt.

The Study of Poetry

Literary Criticism is, as Matthew Arnold (1822-1888), the Victorian poet and critic points out, a "disinterested endeavor to learn and propagate" the best that is known and thought in the world. And he strove hard to fulfill this aim in his critical writings. Attaching paramount importance to poetry in his essay "The Study of Poetry", he regards the poet as seer. Without poetry, science is incomplete, and much of religion and philosophy would in future be replaced by poetry. Such, in his estimate, are the high destinies of poetry.

Arnold asserts that literature, and especially poetry, is "Criticism of Life". In poetry, this criticism of life must conform to the laws of poetic truth and poetic beauty. Truth and seriousness of matter, felicity and perfection of diction and manner, as are exhibited in the best poets, are what constitutes a criticism of life.

Poetry, says Arnold, interprets life in two ways: "Poetry is interpretative by having natural magic in it, and moral profundity". And to achieve this the poet must aim at high and excellent seriousness in all that he writes. This demand has two essential qualities. The first is the choice of excellent actions. The poet must choose those which most powerfully appeal to the great primary human feelings which subsist permanently in the race. The second essential is what Arnold calls the Grand Style - the perfection of form, choice of words, drawing its force directly from the pregnancy of matter which it conveys.

The Study of Poetry

This, then, is Arnold's conception of the nature and mission of true poetry. And by his general principles - the" Touchstone Method" - introduced scientific objectivity to critical evaluation by providing comparison and analysis as the two primary tools for judging individual poets. Thus, Chaucer, Dryden, Pope, and Shelley fall short of the best, because they lack "high seriousness". Even Shakespeare thinks too much of expression and too little of conception. Arnold's ideal poets are Homer and Sophocles in the ancient world, Dante and Milton, and among moderns, Goethe and Wordsworth. Arnold puts Wordsworth in the front rank not for his poetry but for his "criticism of life". It is curious that Byron is placed above Shelley. Arnold's inordinate love of classicism made him blind to the beauty of lyricism, and we cannot accept Arnold's view that Shelley's poetry is less satisfactory than his prose writings.

Arnold's criticism of life is often marred by his naive moralizing, by his inadequate perception of the relation between art and morality, and by his uncritical admiration of what he regarded as the golden sanity of the ancient Greeks. For all his championing of disinterestedness, Arnold was unable to practise disinterestedness in all his essays. In his essay on Shelley particularly, he displayed a lamentable lack of disinterestedness. Shelley's moral views were too much for the Victorian Arnold. In his essay on Keats too Arnold failed to be disinterested. The sentimental letters of Keats to Fanny Brawne were too much for him. But Arnold's insistence on the standards and his concern over the relation between poetry and life make him one of the great modern critics.

Appreciation of Poetry

A lot of students are expected to write a literary essay based on appreciation of poetry. To make the task enjoyable we need to define poetry. What is poetry? Edmund Clarence Stedman said the following: "Poetry is rhythmical, imaginative language expressing the invention, taste, thought, passion, and insight of the human soul."

Poetry is the creativity of a person's imagination. Like any other literary work, it needs to be understood to be appreciated. The writer writes for a reason. His purpose may be to evoke emotion, inform, define, represent something of the world or life, entertain ... Whatever the case, a poem is unique to its writer. And each poem can be analyzed to be appreciated. Here are some general ideas to help you understand the poem you are reading:

Subject: Try to outline the subject matter of the poem. You need to look at what is being described. It could be a place, an event, a person, a situation or an experience. What does the poet want you to focus on, in the poem or in each stanza? Theme: Once you have identified the subject of the poem, try and figure out what the poet wants to tell you. Look at the following: the poet's message; his purpose; ideas that he is conveying; the title; and the type of poem (i.e. sonnet, ballad, lyrical, reflective, monologue, elegy, narrative, descriptive, a combination of different types). Always remember that feeling and tone work hand-in-hand with the subject and theme. Structure: The form of the poem is very important. By now, you should know what kind of poem you are dealing with: e.g. ballad, epic, ode, sonnet, dramatic monologue, elegy, etc. Discuss your knowledge of the poem's structure in the essay Rhythm: Look at the flow of the poem through the line patterns. Are they regular or irregular? If they are regular, does the metre stay the same throughout the poem? (Metre: pattern of rhythmic beats per line; stressed and unstressed words that make up the rhythm of the poem, indicating pace, e.g. slow or fast.) If there are changes to the metre, analyse where the changes are. Try to find the reason for the change. What effect does this change have on the poem? Rhyme: Does the poem have a set scheme? Has the poet written in free verse, blank verse; does he use pair rhyme, cross rhyme, or broken rhyme? Does he use half rhyme, near rhyme, middle rhyme or end rhyme? Does the poet emphasise words or the message by means of the rhyme scheme? What is the purpose and effect of the rhyme scheme? Pausing and punctuation have an effect on the structure, rhythm and rhyme of a poem. Imagery: There are various ways to paint a picture in the reader's mind through the use of words. Look at the figurative and sound devices used in the poem. Are the images visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile, olfactory or gustatory? Diction: The words that are used and the way they are placed can enhance the power of the poet's creativity. Remember inversion, hyperbole, euphemism, irony, sarcasm, rhetorical questions and other poetic techniques that can bring meaning to the poem. When you are writing your essay, you only need to mention imagery, figurative and sound devices, as well as diction; you need not explain why the poet has used the technique or whether it is effective or not. General Impression: Give your opinion of the poem in general and what effect it has had on you. Did you like it or not? Remember to use quotation marks when you are quoting from the poem.

Appreciation of Poetry

As you read and appreciate more poetry, you will discover that the study of poetry is educationally fulfilling. Once you start to understand poems, you will be enriched in so many ways. Poetry enhances character. Keep on trying. Success lies first and foremost in the love for literature, and then it can be found in the understanding and interpretation of texts.
